Accuser at heart of Pa. clergy-abuse case on standTriple accuser in Philadelphia clergy-abuse case testifies to priest abuse, drug addiction
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' A Philadelphia jury is hearing from a young man who says he was sexually assaulted by two priests and his Catholic school teacher.
A policeman's son, the witness says he started smoking marijuana at age 10 to deal with the abuse. He says he has since tried drug treatment 23 times to battle addictions to heroin, painkillers and other drugs.
The 23-year-old is testifying in the child-endangerment case of Monsignor William Lynn, a former Philadelphia archdiocese official.
The witness says former priest Edward Avery twice raped him after Mass in 1999. Jurors weren't told that Avery, Lynn's former co-defendant, has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Earlier Wednesday, a 49-year-old doctor said he told Lynn in 1992 that Avery had abused him ' and asked the archdiocese to keep children safe.
