Accom to Show WSD/HDi and APR?ClipStore At Siggraph 2004Storage for multi-user collaborative HD production and DDR (July 02, 2004)
Accom will be exhibiting two new products at Siggraph 2004 including WSD/HDi storage for multi-user collaborative HD production and APR?ClipStore DDR.
Graphics and effects work for HDTV and electronic film require complex interaction with a multi-user collaborative workflow. WSD/HDi is designed specifically for today's highly networked production environment, features a built-in disk storage array and provides a very robust feature set.
Capture both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) uncompressed video content, perform real-time playback for rendered projects, and encode real-time clips to Windows Media 9 Series WMV files. With a simple click of the mouse, you can immediately switch between SD or HD projects without ever having to reboot the disk recorder.
The built-in Import/Export utility allows the WSD/HDi to seamlessly interface with a network of graphics rendering computers and film printers without concern for proprietary file formats ? also eliminating the need for complex transfer scripting. The Import utility can monitor up to five user-defined directories on a Gigabit Ethernet network for the arrival of single-frame image files. As soon as an image file arrives, the Import utility automatically creates a clip in the WSD/HDi, and inserts the frame into the clip. Subsequent frames arriving in the same directory are then inserted into the same clip. On the export side of the equation, while the WSD/HDi is recording a real-time clip, the Export utility can transfer individual frames from that clip (or any clip already stored) to any computer or film printer on the network. For both Import and Export, all popular image file formats are supported, such as SGI, TGA, TIF, DPX and PSD ? just to name a few.
The Key Channel Option allows the WSD/HDi to record and play "dual-link" 4:4:4 RGB video, while the alternative "V+V Dual-Stream" option allows the WSD/HDi to record two streams of video that are always locked together ¾ providing a means to record either two video tracks or proprietary ?ultra high-definition video formats. A final option allows users to record LTC timecode discontinuities or replace them with internally-generated timecode.
The award-winning APR?ClipStore is the newest product in the Accom family of digital disk recorders (DDR), providing Standard Definition (SD) 10-bit digital video & key with 24-bit AES/EBU digital audio I/O ? coupled to an uncompressed digital disk storage array. All of which is housed in a sleek and compact 3RU chassis. In the Accom product lineup, the all-new low-cost ClipStore is replacing the award-winning WSD/2Xtreme and APR/Attaché digital disk recorders.
ClipStore acts as a bridge between computers and professional digital video systems, with the added benefit of recording and playing an associated key signal. ClipStore provides an automated solution to stream digitized video, key and audio (VKA) into computer systems ? or can be used to capture and replay (in real-time) single-frame image files when rendered from computer graphics applications ? all via ultra-fast Gigabit Ethernet. ClipStore is also an ideal low-cost solution for real-time playback of uncompressed video, key and audio clips in live production environments.
Although this newest DDR from Accom may be extremely low-cost and compact, the feature set is exceptionally abundant and robust. The built-in Import/Export utility is just one of the many available features, with identical operation to the Import/Export utility found in the WSD/HDi product (see above).
Other features of the APR/ClipStore include a standard 1000 base/T gigabit Ethernet port, control from any networked computer through the unique browser-based NetPanel user interface, industry-standard QuickTime compliant file format, Windows Media 9 export encoding and optional 4-track AES/EBU digital audio. Together, these features provide the ability to easily interchange media between ClipStore and workstation applications such as render capture, film-to-video & video-to-film, motion capture, compositing, rotoscoping and color-correction.
With SGI, Mac, and Windows connectivity, ClipStore is expected to be the best-selling video I/O device for use in computer graphics, professional broadcast and video production applications.
Accom is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
