Academic language and conceptual knowledge: The building blocks of academic success

  (April 26, 2012)

(PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Educational software company Imagine Learning is sponsoring a free webinar focused on research-based practices to help English learners build a stronger foundation to achieve academic success. The live presentation is part of Imagine Learnings Ahead of the Class webinar series, which draws on expert educators to provide information on current topics in education. The webinar will air on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. MDT.

In this presentation, Dr. Sylvia Linan-Thompson, associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin, will examine the effects of explicit literacy instruction on students transition from Spanish to English instruction and the implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) with English learners. According to Dr. Thompson, academic language is essential for academic success, yet many English learners are not exposed to this level of language.

Along with these implementations, participants will also be provided with the research base for language and literacy practices that can be implemented across content areas.

Space is limited, so educators who wish to attend are encouraged to register early at https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/384859406
