Ableton Releases Live 3Audio performance software gains new effects, enhanced MIDI functionality
Live 3 is designed composition, recording and performance features intro a single application, offering multi-track recording, sequencing, looping, effects and other features. The new version 3.0 brings several enhancements to the software, including new effects; sample modulation with effects; the ability to mute or attenuate notes in a sample; clip envelopes for creating variations on a sample; the ability to change the pitch of individual notes in a sample; new pattern, fade, LFO and step sequence creation; sample offsetting; MIDI key ranges with velocity support; and a new consolidate command, which converts tracks in a selected time range to a new clip.
For new effects, Live 3 include five parallel resonators for changing the tonal character of the input device; Compressor II for frequency-selective compression; EQ Three, a three-band DJ-style EQ with 48 dB of filter band separation; and Utility, which offers gain, stereo width and phase control.
The new software also gains some more minor enhancements, with workflow improvements in editing, new quantization features, additional VST options (including support for the Mach-O VST plugin for Mac OS X), recording enhancements and additional options for clip settings.
Live 3 is available for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $399. Upgrades start at $30. For more information, visit http://www.ableton.com/.
