Ableton Previews Live 2.0

New release to support advanced automation handling By Dave Nagel
Ableton has announced Live 2.0, a forthcoming update to the company's sequencer. The software is designed as a sequencing instrument for live performances. It should be available next month for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

Live 2.0 adds multi-track recording and editing with a feature called "elastic audio," which allows users to set the tempo at any time during a performance. Users can also drop in recordings and loops that play in sync directly from the disk. In version 2.0, tempo changes are also recordable and editable as a continuous curve. Other new features include advanced automation handling, cross fading, relative session mapping, mapping of tempo and transport controls to MIDI or keyboard keys, presets for effects settings and new effects (Gate and Redux).

Users who purchase or unlock Live 1.0 or 1.5 between now and the release of 2.0 are eligible for a free update to 2.0 The full version runs $89 for the boxed version or $69 for the download version. For more information, visit
