Ableton Announces Live 2.1

New version adds full support for ReWire By Dave Nagel
Ableton has announced a new version of Live, a sequencing instrument designed for live performances. The upcoming 2.1 release adds full support for ReWire on Mac OS X and is expected to be available by the end of the month.

With Live 2.1 under Mac OS X, users can connect via ReWire to Digidesign's Pro Tools, MOTU's Digital Performer, Steinberg's Cubase and Nuendo and Emagic's Logic. According to Ableton, this upgrade "completes Live's full ReWire implementation as a ReWire Master and ReWire Slave application under Windows, Mac OS 9, and Mac OS X." The new version also includes Direct I/O support for integration with Digidesign audio hardware. And on the Macintosh, Live 2.1 now reads samples in Sound Designer II format.

Live 2.1 will be available by the end of July for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows as a free update for current users. A beta version is available now for download from Ableton's site. For more information, visit
