ATypI Appoints Filip Blazek New Country Delegate

First country delegate from the Czech Republic (July 30, 2004)

Today the Board of Directors of the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI) announced that it has appointed the first country delegate for the Czech Republic, the designer Filip Blazek. The chairman of the ATypI Country Delegates, Henrik Birkvig, who teaches typography at The Graphic Arts Institute of Denmark, said, ?We are very happy to have Filip Blazek join our team of Country Delegates. His experience and involvement in the Czech graphic arts will be very valuable for us.

The ATypI Country Delegates produce an annual report under the direction of Mr. Birkvig on the state of type, typography, books, events and design for all of the member countries. This report is provided free for the members of the Association and to attendees at the annual Conferences. The Country Delegates also facilitate communication and action with other ATypI members in their local country.

Mr Blazek is one of the program organizers for the ATypI Prague 2004 Conference, and a long-time ATypI member.

Filip Blazek was born 1974, and studied private high school of art in Prague (graphic design; 1991-1995). He earned a Master's degree in cultural anthropology at Charles University, Prague (1995-2001; dissertation on ?Typography and Czech Society in 20th Century). He has worked as a graphic designer since 1993; since 1997 as a freelancer; since 2003 in his own studio Designiq. He is a co-author of the book Practical Typography (together with Pavel Kocièka; ComputerPress 2000). He contributes regularly to the professional periodicals Deleatur, Umeni & Remesla, Typografia, and More recently he is a regular contributor to the Czech magazine TYPO, focused on typography and design, which he established in 2003 with a group of young typographers.
