ATTIK Lands Wayne Hanson As Creative DirectorAward-winning art director joins San Francisco staff (October 08, 2004)
Global creative agency ATTIK today announced that Wayne Hanson, an award-winning agency art director with over 18 years of experience working with top European ad agencies, has joined the firm's full-time staff in San Francisco as creative director, effective immediately. The announcement was made by ATTIK's co-founder and global creative director Simon Needham.
Most recently working with Lowe People in Stockholm, Hanson joined that agency in 2002 from Lowe in London, where he served as art director and associate board member. One extraordinary cinema spot he wrote and produced there for The Equal Opportunities Commission entitled "Time of the Month" landed the 2003 Eurobest Gold Award, was a 2003 Cannes finalist and is honored in the World Federation of Advertisers' Hall of Fame as the Best Socially Responsible Ad of the past fifty years.
Other highlights from his eight years with Lowe include innovative account work across all media for various international European brands. In 1994, he also created the Vauxhall Corsa TV campaign that ran for nearly five years. Print and outdoor campaign elements he art directed for Vauxhall earned the Cannes Press Gold Lion and three Eurobest Gold Awards in 1997. In 1996, the Vauxhall campaign earned a One Show Silver Pencil, the Campaign Posters Silver Award, the Cannes Poster Bronze Lion and Creative Circle's Bronze Award.
The history between Hanson and ATTIK founders Needham and James Sommerville traces back to their college days in Huddersfield. The friends have always remained close, and in fact, Hanson contributed his talents to ATTIK's 2003 Scion launch campaign as a copywriter.
With ATTIK currently driving a number of initiatives to pursue new business, Needham explained, the long-awaited opportunity to bring Hanson aboard finally arrived. "My colleagues and I are very pleased to be working with our long-term college friend," Needham said. "To be able to collaborate with Wayne on our day-to-day account activities after so many years is an ideal situation for us."
"The opportunity to create great advertising on a new car brand in the world's biggest ad market was one I just couldn't miss" Hanson added.
Among his achievements during his time at Lowe People, Hanson's print work for Mercedes Benz E-Class was nominated in both the 2003 Cannes Ad Festival and the Swedish Golden Egg Awards. A TV spot he wrote, art directed and directed for Smart Car was nominated in last year's Eurobest Awards, as were two Unilever commercials he art directed and produced. With his contributions, the agency not only won Sweden's Graninge national electricity account (his subsequent campaign work earned two Cannes Print nominations earlier this year) and the Tiger of Sweden and Cirkus Cirkor accounts, it also vaulted to the ranking of sixth out of 70 in Lowe's 2004 worldwide agency review.
Hanson began his career in 1986 with Graham Poulter Advertising in Leeds. He served Manchester's BDH from 1990 until joining Lowe in 1993.
