ATLAB Group Purchases IMAGICA Imager XE Digital Film ScannerAtlab First In Australasia With Integrated Digital Lab (October 05, 2001)
The IMAGER XE scans 4096 pixels across a 35mm Academy frame and provides true bit depth of FIDO 10-bit with a full RGB color space, as well as consistent color and density, frame after frame. It scans 4 seconds/frame for 2K and 8 seconds/frame for 4K resolution. In addition to 35mm, the IMAGER XE also supports 16mm and Super 16. Super 16 is used frequently for independent films, and having this option allows film facilities to meet both independent and larger production needs.
The IMAGER XE features a precision pin-registered movement and proprietary film gate transport to ensure smooth, safe shuttling to the film with high speed advancement to the middle of the film roll. The new 2000 foot film reel ensures that film facilities never have to cut a roll. The IMAGER XE is designed to handle both 35mm 4 perf and 35mm 8 perf (VistaVision) images, and also 16mm. VistaVision scans can be done at resolutions as high as 4096 x 6144 pixels. The scanning resolutions are switch selectable between 2K, 3K and 4K, for 35mm film.
IMAGICA scanners have been used on such movies as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Mission To Mars, Stuart Little, and many others. Installed in August 2001, the high end digital IMAGICA scanning, ARRILASER recording and substantial digital image processing infrastructure will provide full film resolution digital services for Atlab's local and international clientele. This seed digital facility is the core of Atlab's development strategy towards full resolution Digital Mastering and D-Cinema Distribution pipelines.
