ATI and Intel Support IEEE 1394 as Connection Standard

(August 30, 2001)
ATI Technologies Inc. and Intel Corporation announced their support of the IEEE 1394, or FireWire standard for multimedia device connection to the personal computer. FireWire was developed by technology innovator Apple Computer, the first computer manufacturer to implement the standard in its entire line of computers.

The 1394 standard, more popularly known as FireWire and i.LINK, and developed by technology innovator Apple Computer, is growing in acceptance as the best method to connect peripheral devices, such as digital video camcorders, to PCs.

"Intel has long been a proponent of IEEE 1394 as the way to bridge consumer PCs to the emerging class of digital consumer electronics devices, starting today with DV camcorders," said David Fair, Extended PC Technologies Initiative Manager, Intel Corp. "Intel is pleased that ATI is creating new ways to bring 1394 to the PC platform with its ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500DV graphics and multimedia solution."
