ASSIA to Present on Two Hot Topics in DSL

At the TIA 2012 conference ASSIA's Vice President of Research Wonjong Rhee will deliver a presentation, "Management of DSL and Wi-Fi from Cloud for Mobile Data Offloading." Mobile offloading has been a timely topic since the growth of smart-phones began placing heavy loads on cellular networks. Offloading is often achieved through a local DSL broadband service and an associated Wi-Fi network link. While the basic concepts and benefits of offloading itself have been well recognized, the performance and management challenges of the DSL and Wi-Fi connections and the impact of offloading have not been well understood. This presentation will cover the potential cost savings and additional revenues made possible by remote management of DSL and Wi-Fi. In addition, performance statistics and unrealized gains from cloud side monitoring will be provided.

At TNO's DSL Seminar 2012 ASSIA's Chief Technology Officer Marc Goldburg will deliver a presentation, "Vectoring Coexistence: Unvectored Services and Unbundled Environments." Vectoring technology can deliver speeds of more than 100 Mbps in dense VDSL deployments. Service providers and regulators worldwide consider vectoring to be critical to the future of the copper plant as a medium for delivering advanced broadband services. Practical deployment of vectored DSL will generally require mechanisms to ensure coexistence between vectored and unvectored DSLs, and between different vectoring groups. Coexistence mechanisms are important between separate DSL networks, and even within a single operator's DSL network. In this talk, Goldburg will review coexistence mechanisms for VDSL, and present guidelines for the coexistence of vectored systems with other DSL systems, both vectored and unvectored.

About Wonjong Rhee
Dr. Wonjong Rhee is ASSIA's vice president of research and a 15-year veteran of the wired and wireless industry. He is a founding employee of ASSIA Inc., where he led invention and development of the company's DSL and Wi-Fi optimization solutions.
