APNewsBreak: Navy dismisses claims of widespread exam-cheating on submarines By The Associated Press

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) An investigation by the Navy's inspector general for the Atlantic submarine force has found that allegations of widespread cheating on exams are unsubstantiated.

The Navy opened an inquiry in August following a review that originated in Groton, Conn., the home port of an attack submarine that was hit by a cheating scandal in 2010.

The commander of the Atlantic submarine force recommended that the case be closed as unsubstantiated with no further action in a letter to U.S. Fleet Forces Command. A copy of the letter was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The report said previous episodes of cheating on submarines were thoroughly investigated and dealt with individually.
