APNewsBreak: NY accountant off heiress' estate

APNewsBreak: NY accountant resigns from handling Montana copper heiress' estate By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A New York accountant facing questions about his handling of a reclusive Montana copper mining heiress' fortune has resigned from administering her estate. An official says the accountant and a lawyer underpaid her taxes by tens of millions of dollars.

Lawyers for Huguette (HYOO'-get) Clark's $400 million estate said in a letter Tuesday accountant Irving Kamsler was resigning as an executor.

That revelation came as the Manhattan public administrator said in a court filing Kamsler and Clark lawyer Wallace Bock let $90 million in unpaid gift taxes and penalties accrue.

Kamsler and Bock have denied any wrongdoing in their dealings with Clark. Kamsler lawyer Elizabeth Crotty says he handled her affairs diligently but resigned to put the matter behind him.

Clark died in May at age 104, a last breath of New York's Gilded Age of Rockefellers and Vanderbilts.
