AJA Ships HD Downconverter

Device outputs SD-SDI and analog component By Dave Nagel
AJA Video Systems today introduced its HD10MD HD downconverter. AJA is the maker of several video converters and interfaces, as well as the Kona SD and HD editing boards for Apple's Final Cut Pro. The HD10MD--a miniature device measuring 5.8" x 3.1" x 1--is a 10-bit HD downconverter that converts HD-SDI into standard-def SDI and analog video. It's available now.

The HD10MD converts HD-SDI video to standard definition SDI and analog component/composite video. It uses a 10-bit data path and multi-point interpolation to convert either 1080p24 or 1080p24sf to 59.94 Hz output video using 3:2 pulldown. The output can be formatted for either 4:3 or 16:9 standard-definition monitors. For 4:3 monitors, both letterbox and crop modes are provided.

The HD10MD accepts an HD-SDI input and downconverts it to SDI while simultaneously outputting a 10-bit analog signal. Analog formats can be YPbPr, NTSC/PAL/YC or RGB and are user-selectable with an external dip switch. It includes four outputs for supporting multiple pieces of equipment, as well as legacy equipment.

The HD10MD sells for $2,400 and comes with a five-year. For more information, visit
