AES Sponsors An Afternoon With . . . George Massenburg

(July 12, 2001)
AES-LA is planning another of its popular "Afternoon With ... " program. This time, our special guest will be George Massenburg, a seasoned producer, mixer, equipment de-signer, and keynote speaker at the 103rd AES Convention in New York. We are very excited about this opportunity for a few hours of discussion with a Grammy(r) Award-winning producer and recording engineer, and to hear his take on our industry. This unique event is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, August 25, 2001, at The Eileen Norris Theatre, located on the University of Southern California campus, downtown Los Angeles.

Some details from George's biography: he was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and by age 15 was working part time in both a recording studio and in an electronics laboratory. He designed, authored and presented a 1972 AES paper on the parametric equalizer, and is regularly published in professional journals and trade magazines worldwide.

In 1982, George chartered GML, Inc. to produce equipment for specific recording applications, including Parametric Equalizers, Moving Fader Automation systems, Dynamic Gain Controller, High Resolution Topology line-level mixing console, Microphone Pre-amplifier, and other high-tech gear. Individually or collaboratively, he has designed, built, and managed several recording studios, notably ITI Studios in Huntsville, Maryland, and The Complex, Los Angeles.

George has participated in over 200 record albums during the past 30 years. Album credits include projects with Billy Joel, Kenny Loggins, Journey, Madeleine Peyroux, James Taylor, Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett, Aaron Neville, Little Feat, Michael Ruff, Toto and Linda Ronstadt. He won Grammy Awards as producer of Linda Ronstadt's 1996 "Dedicated to the One I Love," and for Best Engineered Non-Classical Record in 1990 for Linda Ronstadt's "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind." In 1998, George was awarded a Grammy for Technical Achievement, one of only four presented in the history of NARAS.

This ""Afternoon With ... " will be a very popular event, requiring reservations. See www.aes.org/sections/la.
