ADS Announces Pyro DV DriveDirect to disk recorder due in June
The Pyro DV features a 20 GB hard drive and a built-in rechargeable battery enclosed in a silver and charcoal grey case about the size of a PDA. With a record/stop button, users can transfer digital video to the drive via FireWire while the DV camcorder is either in record or playback mode. It can accommodate up to one hour and 40 minutes of digital video, which can be imported via FireWire to any non-linear editor for the Macintosh (and Windows machines that have FireWire ports).
The drive includes a FireWire cable, power supply and belt clip. It will be available in June for $499.
ADS has also started shipping the Pyro 2.5" Drive kit, an external enclosure that converts notebook hard drives to external FireWire storage devices. The drive measures 3" x 5.25" x 0.8" and is completely bus powered through the FireWire port. (For non-powered, 4-pin FireWire port connections, it includes a USB power cable in addition to the necessary FireWire cables.) The kit is available now for $120.
