A Few New Features in AutoCAD2002...

By Elise Moss
The new Layer Previous toolbar button appears in the Object Properties toolbar. Use it when you freeze a bunch of layers, make changes, and then want to restore your previous state.

You also have the ability to create Layer States...this is great for architects, who want to create a Layer State for FloorPlan, a Layer State for Site Plan; or mechanical engineers who may want to create a layer state for each sub-assembly level in a large assembly.

You also have the ability to Drag and Drop hatch patterns from a *.pat file. Just locate the *.pat file using the Design Center, then drag and drop the desired hatch pattern into your drawing.

The PEDIT command has been expanded. You now have a MULTIPLE option. Start the PEDIT command, type M , then ENTER, and select as many plines as you like. So you can change the width or edit vertices on multiple plines simultaneously...a real productivity booster!

There is also a hidden feature using the MULTIPLE option. Start PEDIT, type M, then ENTER, select lines or polylines you wish to JOIN that have non-touching end points. You are then prompted for a FUZZ FACTOR or JOINTYPE. You can specify a distance between the end points to determine which lines should be joined or select J for JOIN TYPE. Under JOIN TYPE, you have the options of Extend/Add/Both. Selecting Extend will cause the lines to fillet themselves to meet. Selecting Add will add an additional pline segment to bring the lines together.

FILLET and CHAMFER have been updated to allow modification to PLINES. If you have a pline with multiple vertices and you want to add a fillet to all the vertices, use the PLINE option of the FILLET command to fillet all the vertices in one step.
