65 homes evacuated near blaze in northern Colo.Residents of 65 homes evacuated near growing wildfire in northern Colorado
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) ' Fire officials have ordered mandatory evacuations for residents of 65 homes near a wildfire burning near a scenic canyon in northern Colorado.
The Larimer County sheriff's office says the residents were told to leave Thursday. Fire information officer Reghan Cloudman says the notices went to residents who leave east of the rapidly growing fire.
The blaze northwest of Fort Collins has grown from 1,000 acres to 5,000 acres in the past day. Authorities have said it was burning within a quarter-mile of some homes.
Steep, rocky terrain and lack of roads in the area are hampering firefighting efforts. Some 400 firefighters have been dispatched to the fire.
Authorities say the fire was human-caused but they haven't released details about how it started.
