5 found dead in central Arkansas duplex

Fire chief says 1 adult, 4 children found dead in central Arkansas duplex; cause unknown By The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (AP) ' A fire chief says one adult and four children have been found dead at a duplex in central Arkansas.

Jacksonville Chief Bob Thornton says firefighters were called to the Max Howell duplex around 6 a.m. Thursday by a neighbor who reported smelling smoke. Thornton says no one answered the door and firefighters using thermal imaging did not detect any signs of a fire from outside the apartment. He says they left without entering the apartment.

Thornton says a maintenance worker discovered the bodies an hour later. He says the cause of death is unknown.

He says there was no fire burning when authorities returned but that there were signs one had burned overnight. He says there were no indications of foul play, and that multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating.
