3Prong Releases SpeedRamP 1.0 Avid Plug-inDesigned to add speed and versatility to motion effects on Avid systems (December 18, 2001)
With SpeedRamP, a video or film clip can have up to nine different speeds within a single segment in the Avid timeline. For example, action can start off at normal speed, slow to a stop, reverse, or run fast in either direction with a range of 100X to +100X play speed. There is no need to export to a separate application and maintain separate media files and metadata.
?Ramping the speed directly within the Avid application adds a lot of convenience, but even at fixed speeds, users will really appreciate the improvement in image quality says Andre Brunger of 3Prong. ?We have several special technologies that minimize the need to de-interlace video, and maximize the quality when we do so.
Users can choose from Interlaced, Progressive, or 3:2 Pulldown settings for input and output. Specifying these field patterns allows the appropriate field to be used for any given speed and at any given time. It gives smoother motion to speed changes in film and progressive video by removing the redundant fields, while eliminating the softness of interpolation that users have seen up till now.
For interlaced video, SpeedRamP provides Adaptive processing, which detects motion and can make a dramatic improvement in steady parts of the image where the eye sees detail. Where interpolation is used, an Enhancement option sharpens the image.
In addition to detecting and removing 3:2 pulldown, SpeedRamP can re-phase it for compositing needs, or add it to interlaced video, giving a FilmSim effect. Other effects are Blending and keyframed Strobing, which can be used in combination to give an effect of dissolving freezes. Individual fields of the frame may be swapped or eliminated. Looping and ping-pong effects are available.
SpeedRamP provides a graphical display of speed and keyframes to illustrate the effect, and source time code tracking for simplified match-framing.
A free demo version of SpeedRamP is available at http://www.3Prong.com. Other 3Prong AVX plug-ins available for trial are ColorFiX (advanced color correction), DirtFiX (dirt and dropout removal), FlickerFiX (level locking), and CalcFX (a user-programmable plug-in).
SpeedRamP is priced at US $300.
