3D Toolmakers Demonstrate Support for Viewpoint Rich Media File Format

(August 14, 2001)
Viewpoint Corporation announced that 15 3D tool developers are supporting Viewpoint's rich media player and technology.

Creating rich media becomes even easier as authors can now create Viewpoint content with a wide selection of industry standard tools ranging from vendors like Adobe and Discreet to SolidWorks. Viewpoint allows content creators to develop an engaging Web experience for a low-bandwidth environment by delivering multiple media types in a single comprehensive Web platform, the Viewpoint Media Player.

"We chose to power Atmosphere's objects with the Viewpoint Media Player because of the tremendous flexibility and power it gives us," said Michael Kaplan, senior engineering manager for Atmosphere at Adobe. "Viewpoint's incredible visual fidelity and extensive media integration affords our users the most dynamic experience on the Web, helping Atmosphere to provide a unified platform for extending the Web beyond hyperlinks and static pictures."

"At Discreet we are seeing an ever increasing demand for tools that can create high quality modeling and animation dedicated to purely Web-focused 3D," said Dan Prochazka, product manager for Web products at Discreet. "Viewpoint's vast media environment is a natural match for the high quality output tools available with 3ds max 4."

"As Web content creation becomes an increasingly important use for our industry-leading video and 3D animation products, the advantages of the Viewpoint Media Player become strikingly apparent for our customers," said Brad Peebler, vice president of 3D graphics for NewTek, makers of LightWave 3D, Video Toaster and other breakthrough products. "Widespread adoption of this outstanding rich media environment will enable interactive content creators to deliver more dramatic effects, quicker and easier."

"Caligari's partnership with Viewpoint enables our customers to display their work in the richest way possible: in full 3D perspective, viewable from any angle. This partnership is truly a win-win for both companies, allowing trueSpace users to present compelling designs while showcasing Viewpoint's pioneering technology," said Roman Ormandy, president, Caligari Corporation.

"Our customers maximize the value of their solid models by communicating and sharing design information early in the concept stage," said Robert McGill, manager of SolidWorks Corporation's partner program. "With the Viewpoint Media Player, SolidWorks' customers are connecting their distributed design teams with high quality, highly interactive viewing of their designs over the Internet."

"We are pleased with the comprehensive support we are receiving from 3D software vendors and will continue to support them by providing a solid, widely adopted rich media environment for deploying and viewing content on the Web," said, Lars Olson, product manager for Viewpoint. "With multiple authoring paths and file conversion capabilities, content creators are able to translate their existing content for use online, making their existing assets a cost-effective and cutting edge reality."
