2 injured, 2 arrested in Calif. tribal standoffDispute between members of Central Calif. tribe turns violent
COARSEGOLD, Calif. (AP) ' A dispute between two factions of a California tribe that recently expelled dozens of members has turned violent at a tribal government building.
The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/wFGI3d) that one person was stabbed and another suffered a head injury during a clash in the parking lot of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians' tribal government center on Tuesday.
The stabbing victim, a security guard, did not appear to suffer life-threatening injuries. Two people were arrested.
The Bee reports that the fight is connected to the previous day's takeover of a tribal office by supporters of a group claiming it was denied its rightful place on the tribal council following an election.
The tribe owns the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino near Yosemite National Park. Supporters of the faction that occupied the tribal office say it would reverse the tribe's recent expulsions.
