DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) ' A Huxley woman accused of killing her newborn twin daughters after giving birth at home is being held on $1 million bond.
Jackie Burkle, who is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, made her initial court appearance Wednesday in Story County.
Police found the infants' bodies in the trunk of Burkle's car Saturday after receiving a call to check on her. Court records show she gave birth on Friday.
Police have released few details but say the 22-year-old Burkle lives with her parents. Police say they are working to identify the children's father, but Burkle was not married.
A telephone message left for Burkle's attorney was not immediately returned.
A woman who says she's the manager of the Huxley convenience store where police say Burkle works declined comment.
