15 quarantined in powdery package blast in W.Va.

15 workers quarantined after package explodes, white powder showers W.Va. post office By The Associated Press

RANSON, W.Va. (AP) ' Authorities have evacuated a West Virginia post office after a package exploded and sprayed an unidentified white powder.

Firefighter spokesman, Ronald Fletcher told the Hagerstown Herald-Mail (http://bit.ly/u2TaxA) that 15 people were quarantined but showed no sign of illness.

Fletcher says employees told police there was a "pop," then a shower of white powder. He did not know what the powder was.



The incident occurred about 7:45 a.m. Friday at the U.S. Post Office in the small town of Ranson..

Neither Jefferson County emergency services nor State Police would immediately comment, but the Special Operations division says it has bomb technician at the scene.

A robot has been sent inside to test the air.

Postmaster Steve Parrill told The Associated Press about 20 people work at the branch.
