117th AES Convention A Rousing Success

Near record numbers of attendees and exhibitors (November 05, 2004)

San Francisco, one of the worlds loveliest and most hospitable cities provided an idyllic setting to the 117th Audio Engineering Society Convention Oct. 28 31. Near record numbers of attendees, 16,153 mingled on an exhibition floor which featured 415 exhibitors, just four away from an all-time AES high.

117th Convention Chair John Strawn reports the Special Events, Workshops, Posters, Roundtables, Presentations, Demonstrations, Screenings, Recitals, Technical Tours, Mentoring Sessions, Papers, Tutorials, Student, Historical and Broadcasting events were as well attended as they were highly regarded.

?The professionalism and tireless dedication of our Committee members is reflected in one of the most meaningful and relevant programs in AES history, he commented. ?Their work was nothing less than exemplary. A sincere vote of thanks goes out to each of them: Papers Co-Chairs: Brian Link and Rob Maher, Workshop Co-Chairs: Christopher Struck and David Harris, Tutorial Seminars Chair: Bob Moses, Special Events Co-Chairs: Valerie Tyler and Van Webster, Education Events Chair: Theresa Leonard, Education Events Vice Chair: Felice Santos-Martin, Facilities Co-Chairs: Bob Megantz and Annemarie Staepelaere, Historical Events Chair: Bill Wray Technical Tours Chair: Larry the O, Program Coordinator: Han Tendeloo, Platinum Records Artists & Producers Series Coordinator: Lisa Roy, Broadcasting Events Coordinator: David Bialik and Volunteers Coordinator: Gary Brown.


?Only someone who has served on an AES Convention Committee can fully appreciate the personal satisfaction derived from a success of this magnitude, adds AES Executive Director Roger Furness. ?Committee Chair John Strawn did a superb job this year, and I invite AES members who have not yet volunteered for this arduous but supremely gratifying labor of love to join us for future events.

The 118th Convention will be held in Barcelona, Spain - May 28-31, 2005 and the 119th Convention is set for New York City Oct. 7- 10, 2005.
