GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- March 26, 2012 -- This year marks the beginning of a new partnership between St. Cecilia Music Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Lincoln Center is one of America's most important cultural institutions and the Chamber Music Society's artistic directors, David Finckel and Wu Han, were named "Musicians of the Year" by Musical America in 2011. Finckel and Wu Han are the new artistic directors of St. Cecilia's Chamber Music Series starting in the 2012/2013 season to bring Lincoln Center performances to Michigan. These concerts will feature the best chamber musicians in thoughtful and unique programs that can be heard in St. Cecilia's Royce Auditorium and at Lincoln Center. This is a milestone moment for St. Cecilia Music Center and for Grand Rapids, creating a cultural destination for artists from around the world and a collaboration with the most important and preeminent music organization in the country.
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performances at St. Cecilia Music Center begin on November 29, 2012 with both artistic directors, cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han, performing with violinist Phillip Setzer in a program featuring Dvorak's Piano Trio in E-flat Major, "Dumky" and Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor as well as Cello Sonata in E Minor by Brahms.
On February 7, 2013, St. Cecilia Music Center will present a program called "Grand Statements" which includes the Strauss Violin Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 18; Ned Rorem's "Aftermath" for Voice and Piano Trio and Piano Quintet by Franck. The roster of acclaimed Lincoln Center musicians includes: Randall Scarlata, baritone; Gil Kalish, piano; Anne-Marie McDermott, piano; Ani Kavafian, violin; Ida Kavafian, violin; Richard O'Neill, viola and Mihai Marica, cello.
April 11 will close the season with a Lincoln Center program including Dvorak Terzetto for Two Violins and Viola, Dohnanyi Serenade in C Major for Violin, Viola and Cello and Weber's Clarinet Quintet.
St. Cecilia will also present a stellar Jazz Series line up in 2012/2013. The Tierney Sutton Band will perform on November 15, 2012; Jazz great Dave Holland with his Quintet will appear on January 24, 2013; and Premier Jazz Pianist Bill Charlap and his Trio will perform on March 14. St. Cecilia Music Center will also host world-renowned jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli and his quartet which includes his brother. The evening will be highlighted by special guest singer Jessica Molasky, John's wife and his father, the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli.
