Formac Ships FireWire DVD-RAM, CD-RW
16x CD-RW also on the way

Formac Electronic has started shipping two new FireWire storage devices, including a 9.4 GB DVD-RAM drive and a 12x CD-RW. The company is also accepting preorders for a new FireWire CD-RW that offers 16x record speeds.

The new DVD-RAM uses double-sided 9.4 GB cartridges (4.7 GB on each side). It can read DVD-ROM, DVD-R, CD-ROM XA, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, CD-DA, Video CD, CD-Extra, Photo CD. It can write multisession DVD-RAM media. The drive is hot-swappable and bus-powered, although an external power supply is available for users of iMac DVs and PowerBooks.

The new CD-RW is also an external FireWire device, offering 12x write, 10x rewrite and 32x read speeds. It can handle capacities up to 700 MB (80-minute audio CDs) and is also hot-swappable and bus-powered. It ships with Adaptec Toast.

Formac is also accepting preorders for a new 16 x write, 10x rewrite, 40x read CD-RW with a similar configuration. The DVD-RAM runs $549. The 12x CD-RW costs $329. And the preorder price for the 16x CD-RW is 449. For more information, visit
