Macromedia Announces Dreamweaver 4, Fireworks 4
New versions scheduled for December ship

Macromedia today announced Dreamweaver 4, its HTML authoring suite, and Fireworks 4, its image editing and Web graphics application. The company also announced version 4 of Dreamweaver UltraDev, a suite for developing database-driven Web applications.

According to Macromedia, Dreamweaver 4 and Fireworks 4 unify code authoring, layout and graphics creation. Dreamweaver 4's features include:

• Integrated BBEdit 6.0 and HomeSite 4.5 Bundle

New features in Fireworks 4 include:

• Pop-up Menu Creator for creating navigation effects with multilevel pop-up menus;
• Drag and drop rollovers;
• Masking and Layers panel enhancements, including expanded thumbnails of each layer's objects and advanced masking capabilities;
• Refined Photoshop import and export;
• Live Animation;
• Improved batch processing;
• Roundtrip table editing with Dreamweaver;
• Export controls, such as customizable automatic file naming, table handling and other output options;
• Selective JPEG compression, which allows for compression of only portions of an image.

The Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio is priced at $449. Dreamweaver 4 standalone is priced at $299, and Fireworks 4 standalone is priced at $299. Both Dreamweaver and Fireworks customers can upgrade to the Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio for $199. The UltraDev 4 Fireworks 4 Studio is priced at $699.
