Epson has launched six new scanners in its line of Perfection flatbeds. Included in the lineup are three Perfection 1640SU models, each with 42-bit color and 1,600 x 3,200 DPI hardware resolutions. They start at $299.

There are three configurations in the 1640SU line:

  • The base model 1640SU includes Adobe Photoshop LE, ArcSoft PhotoPrinter, ArcSoft Panorama Maker, Epson Smart Panel, Epson's TWAIN scanning software and ArcSoft Photo Montage. It sells for $299.
  • The Perfection 1640SU Photo includes the same software as the 1640SU, but it also includes a transparency unit for scanning film, negatives, transparencies or slides. It will be available this month for $399.
  • The Perfection 1640SU Offices adds a 30-page, 5.5 PPM automatic document feeder. It will also be available this month for $499.

The new lineup also includes two scanners falling under the 1240U banner. They also offer 42-bit color, but with resolutions of 1,200 x 2,400 DPI. These include:

  • The Perfection 1240U, which will be available in early November for $199.
  • The Perfection 1240U Photo, which includes a transparency adapter. It will be available in November for $299.

Epson will also be shipping a lower-end model, the 640U, which offers 36-bit color at 600 x 2,400 DPI for $149. It's expected to be available in November as well.

The 1640SU line includes both USB and SCSI connectivity. The 1240U is USB-only. For more information, visit http://www.epson.com.
