Sonic Cuts $1,000 off eDVD
Web integration option brings dynamic content to DVD authoring

Sonic Solutions has started offering special pricing on its eDVD option—25 percent off the $4,000 price tag. Sonic eDVD is an option for all of Sonic's DVD authoring suites, including DVD Creator, DVD Fusion and DVDIt!, all available for the Macintosh.

The eDVD option allows DVD developers to add URLs to DVD content for live Web links or even for controlling DVD content from a remote Web site. Content created with eDVD will play back on any DVD-equipped computer.

The idea is that while DVD can deliver the highest quality fixed content, it can't be changed once its been pressed at the replicator. But using Web links means that personalized information or time-sensitive information contained on the disc can be updated on the fly as the title plays in the desktop DVD system.

It can also provide interactivity through hyperlinks and other HTML tags, allowing consumers to save their scores, for example, on a remote Web server, or even resume where they left off in their lessons for educational DVDs.

Finally, it can also connect users with manufacturers for the purpose of upsells, registration, etc.
