David Nagel Panasonic and Radialogic today announced support for Panasonic's 4.7 GB DVD-RAM drives for the Mac using Radialogic's Storage master suite of DVD utilities. Radialogic's drive management utility and driver package supports all PowerPC-equipped Macintosh computers using Mac OS 8.1 or higher. The Mac OS X version will be released by next year. With Storage Master, Mac users can customize their DVD-RAM storage by choosing the number, size and format of the disc partitions for their specific applications. The software features a graphical interface that enables users to mount and unmount disc partitions, add password protection and encryption, verify media and obtain a detailed analysis of the drive and media performance. Panasonic's 4.7 GB/9.4 GB DVD-RAM provides a data transfer rate of up to 22.16 megabits per second and random data access of about 95 milliseconds. The DVD-RAM drive can be used for storage, editing and backup, as well as CD and DVD-video playback. In addition to being able to read CD-ROM, CD Audio, CD-R, CD-RW and video CD discs at up to 24x speeds, the Panasonic DVD-RAM drive plays DVD video, DVD-ROM and DVD-R discs. The 4.7 GB single-sided bare disc DVD-RAM media can be played back with Apple's iMac DVD-ROM drives. Radialogic Storage Master is available now for $89.95. Panasonic's internal DVD-RAM drive (LF-D211N) is available for $549. For more information, visit http://www.radialogic.com or http://www.panasonic.com.
