Olympus C-2100 Debuts
New
model includes 10x optical zoom, 16 MB buffer

Olympus
America today announced the latest addition to its line of digital cameras.
The C-2100 Ultra Zoom, a 2.1 megapixel model, includes a 10x, all-glass,
stabilized, aspherical zoom lens (38 mm to 380 mm equivalent) and a 2.6x
digital zoom (telephoto equivalent of more than 980 mm). It also includes
a 16 MB SD-RAM buffer. This provides a burst mode of three
frames per second and 1.2 second shot to shot performance (standard resolution).
It comes with an electronic version of an SLR viewfinder.
Other
features include:
- 2.11 million pixel
CCD (1/2 inch, CMY Interlaced, 1,600 x 1,200 pixel size image, 5.6 MB
file size TIFF).
- iESP TTL or spot
autofocus and focusing illuminator to focus from macro to infinity.
White Balance
is also included in the new iESP multi-pattern full-automatic TTL system
with four preset manual selections.
- The metering system
features the Digital ESP multi-patterned metering system, center weighted,
spot or multi-spot metering of up to 8 spot readings.
- The QuickTime Movie
feature provides the ability to film short movies.
- Sound is recorded
directly from the camera's built-in microphone.
- Video with sound
can be viewed on any television with the included NTSC AV cable.
- The C-2100 comes
with an 8 MB SmartMedia card and accepts cards up to 64 MB.
- USB connectivity.
- The manual exposure
mode allows the shutter and aperture to be selected independently.
- Automatic exposure
modes include Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program Auto and
the new S-Program mode with Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Night Scene
and Custom setup modes.
- Exposure compensation
is available in +/- 2 steps EV by 1/3 step increments and Auto Bracketing
from 1/3, 2/3 or 1 stop increments for three or five shots.
- The C-2100 Ultra
Zoom provides four resolution levels of recording in TIFF or Low and
Normal JPEG compressions for photographic images, for a total of 12
different settings.
The C-2100
Ultra Zoom includes an 8 MB panorama SmartMedia card, four NiMH Batteries
and charger, lens cap, strap, USB cable, NTSC video connection cable,
Olympus Camedia Master Utility Software for downloading images from the
camera, Adobe PhotoDeluxe and instruction manuals. The C-2100 Ultra Zoom
will be available this month with an expected street price of $999. All
software supports Macintosh computer systems, as well as Windows systems.
