Fuji Announces Sub-$1,000 4.3 Megapixel Camera

Fuji Photo Film today announced a new camera in its line of FinePix digital still cameras. The new FinePix 4900 Zoom is the first in Fuji's camera lineup with a 4.3 megapixel resolution and an expected selling price of less than $1,000. The new camera is geared toward high-end consumers and photo enthusiasts.

The 4900 includes dual shutter releases for horizontal and vertical shooting and a new cylindrical design for easier manipulation. It has both point and shoot and manual functionality. On the manual side, it has user-selectable shutter speeds from three seconds to 1/2,000 of a second and 13 steps of aperture adjustments, as well as manual focus. Other features include:

• 6x Super EBC Fujinon aspherical zoom lens (f/2.8 - f/11) with a focal length equivalent to a 35 mm to 210 mm on a 35mm camera, along with a frame rate of 1.03 to 1.36 seconds.
• The camera uses a 36-bit, 2.4 million-sensor Super CCD with ISO sensitivities of 125, 200, 400 and 800.
• Built-in miniature LCD through the lens viewfinder.
• 2" LCD playback monitor.
• An optional lens-mounting ring for use with 55 mm filters or 28 mm wide-angle lenses.
• AVI video capture/playback mode with sound.
• Five programmed exposure modes: auto, portrait, scenic, night scene and full manual.
• 64-zone TTL metering with three modes: multi, center or spot.
• The pop-up flash, which effective to a distance of 13', provides five modes: automatic, red-eye reduction, flash on demand, flash cancel and slow synch flash for motion effects. (A hot shoe mount is also available for more advanced flash systems.)
• Records JPEG images at three compression levels (fine, normal and basic) and TIFF images in two modes (RGB and YC).
• Includes 16 MB SmartMedia card.
• Resolutions of 2,400 x 1,800, 1,600 x 1,200, 1,280 x 960 and 640 x 480.
• Dimensions: 4.3" x 3.1" x 3.7".
• Weight: 14.1 ounces.
• The included NP-80 Lithium-ion battery can be recharged inside the camera with a bundled AC 5V adapter or other charger.
• Interface: USB, PC Card, floppy disk adapter, USB card reader.
• Video and audio output.
• Sharpness control: Hard, Soft, Normal
• Playback Modes: auto playback, nine-up, zoom, resize, DPOF, 15x zoom.
