Corel Releases Bryce 4.1 Update

Free update gives taste of Bryce 5 to come

Corel has released an update to Bryce 4, a graphics application it acquired from Metacreations last spring. The new version, 4.1, is available as a free download from Corel's support site for owners of Bryce 4 or 4.0.1. The company says the update includes enhancements to existing features, as well as one new feature to give users a taste of what's to come in Bryce 5, scheduled for release early in 2001.

The new feature is a Custom Starfield Map. Until now, the starfields in Bryce were only randomly generated. Now a Custom Starfield Map can be used, which represents the stars visible from earth.

"We are delivering on our promise to release a free update for Bryce by the end of the summer and reaffirming our commitment to Mac users," said Ian LeGrow, vice president, creative products at Corel, in a prepared statement. "It's one of many updates and upgrades planned for our new graphics product lines—Bryce, KPT, KPT Vector Effects and Corel Painter. These are truly cutting-edge applications which have a loyal following of creative graphics professionals worldwide. We are thrilled to offer our users additional support for their creative efforts."

Other applications acquired by Corel from Metacreations include Painter, KPT and KPT Vector Effects, which Corel has also pledged to continue supporting. The company says it will release an update to Painter in the next few weeks.
