David Nagel Macromedia has started shipping its previously announced Dreamweaver UltraDev, a souped-up version of Dreamweaver designed for application development. Macromedia touts the software as "the first application to allow visual creation of data-driven Web applications across industry leading server technologies, such as Sun Microsystems JavaServer Pages, Microsoft Active Server Pages, and Allaire Cold Fusion Markup Language." In fact, it's the first visual development environment for the Macintosh with full Cold Fusion support. Other features include:
It also includes the core Dreamweaver 3 feature set, COM and JavaBean extensibility, database support, programmable JavaScript API and integration with other development tools. Macromedia Dreamweaver UltraDev is now available for both Macintosh and Windows platforms for an estimated street price of $599. Registered Dreamweaver 3 customers can purchase Dreamweaver UltraDev for $299. French and German editions of the product are expected to ship later this month.
