Apple and RealNetworks have announced an Internet streaming deal. Real is now licensing QuickTime technology from Apple and that RealServer 8 now supports the delivery of QuickTime-based content to Apple's QuickTime players. Real and Apple also agreed to play nicely together on the desktop. Each company's installers will start asking the user which player he or she wants to set as the default, rather than simply changing the setting without asking.
According to a released statement, the RealServer 8 is available for download at RealNetworks' Web site. But, as of press time, product information on that site still referred to RealServer 7. A preview version of RealServer 8 is available on the site. For more information, visit http://www.apple.com/quicktime or http://www.realnetworks.com.
