Hewlett-Packard Co. is expanding its support for peripherals on the Macintosh. The company today introduced drivers and a software suite that lets Mac users connect to the ScanJet 63xx series of pro scannersthe fastest scanners in HP's lineup. What's more, the top-end scanner in the series, the 6390, is being bundled with a full version of Adobe Photoshop 5.5all for $899. The scanners offer 1,200 DPI optical resolution, unlimited interpolated resolution and 36-bit color depth.
The ScanJet 6300C, 6350C and 6390C scanners feature HP PrecisionScan Pro 1.2, HP ScanJet Copy Utility, ReadIRIS Pro 6.0, Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0 and ScanSoft PaperPort 5.5. Only the 6390 comes with Photoshop 5.5. The HP ScanJet 6390C scanner comes with an active-lighted transparency adapter, which lets users scan 35mm slides and transparencies up to 5" x 5". The accessory is optional for the HP ScanJet 6300C and 6350C scanners. A 25-page automatic document feeder provides hands-free scanning for documents up to 8.5" x 14". The automatic document feeder is included with the HP ScanJet 6350C and 6390C scanners and is optional with the HP ScanJet 6300C scanner.
HP says it expects the scanners to start shipping with Mac software in the box by the end of the month. Customers who purchase the scanners between May 22 and Aug. 22 can get the software on CD from HP. All other HP ScanJet 6300C Professional Series customers will be able to get the Mac software for $9.95 shipping and handling.
The Mac version of the scanners are available for USB-equipped Macs only and require Mac OS 8.5 or greater. The ScanJet 6300C, 6350C and 6390C carry U.S. estimated street prices of $399, $499 and $899, respectively. For more information, visit http://www.hp.com or http://www.scanjet.hp.com.
