writes 3.5" 1.44 MB floppy disks and ultra high-density 144 MB media. The
Mobile UltraFloppy connects to the Mac through the USB port, with a FireWire version
set to ship later. It measures 8" x 4.9" x 1.3" inches and weighs
23 ounces. It draws power through the USB or FireWire port and consumes less than
4.5 watts in seek/write/read mode and less than 2.5 watts in standby Mode. A separate
power supply is available. It
offers a data transfer rate of 1.16 MB per second.
On the Mac, the Mobile UltraFloppy
requires OS 9. The USB version is available now for $119. A PCMCIA version is
also available now for $109. The FireWire version is expected to ship June 1 for
$159.
