Silicon Graphics has started shipping its 1600SW flat-panel display for the Mac bundled with the ProFormance 3 graphics accelerator card. The card offers acceleration for QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop and OpenGL, among other applications. The 1600SW display is the only LCD monitor available with adjustable backlight color temperature capability, which enables users to optimize their displays to output the truer image quality for Web graphics, print and video production. The display offers a 17.3", wide-format screen at a resolution of 1,600 x 1,024.

The ProFormance 3 card offers 128-bit acceleration, up to 300 MHz maximum pixel frequency, QuickTime/QuickDraw3D/ Open GL acceleration and configurations for 33 MHz and 66 MHz PCI slots. It also offers a feature called FontCache, which allows users to load font files directly into the onboard memory, which takes processing away from the CPU. The ProGraphic control panel allows access to customization settings. It's available in 32 MB and 16 MB configurations, with support for a maximum resolution of 2,000 x 2,000 and a maximum refresh rate of 120 KHz.

The bundle is available immediately for $2,995. For more information, visit http://www.sgi.com/go/flatpanel.
