Irvine, Calif-based Mac Components Engineered has anounced two new CD-RW modules for the PowerBook media bay. The Xcaret Pro 2000 Media Bay CDRW is designed for the currently shipping 500 MHz and 400 MHz Apple PowerBook FireWire models, as well as the 400 MHz and 333 MHz "Bronze" PowerBook G3 Series. The Xcaret Pro Media Bay CDRW is designed for the PowerBook G3 Series prior to the Bronze models, including1998 (Wallstreet) which includes the 300 MHz, 292 MHz, 266 MHz, 250 MHz, and 233 MHz models.
The MCE Xcaret Pro 2000 Media Bay CDRW and the MCE Xcaret Pro Media Bay CDRW are media bay devices designed to fit into the right-side expansion bay slot of the PowerBooks. These devices give users the ability to write data to 650MB recordable and re-writeable CDs at 4x speeds.They will also read pre-recorded CD-ROMs at 20x speeds. They will ship with Adaptec Toast CD recording software.
The MCE Xcaret Pro 2000 Media Bay CDRW and the MCE Xcaret Pro Media Bay CDRW will retail for $449. This price includes the CDRW device, Toast, owner's manual and a protective carrying case. MCE will begin accepting backorders for both units today via its Web site and phone.
