Umax To Ship Large-Format Scanner
PowerLook 2100XL offers high-speed, 800 x 1,600 scanning

By David Nagel
Senior producer

UMAX Technologies Inc. has announced the PowerLook 2100XL, a high-resolution scanner designed for the professional market. The scanner offers large-size scanning (up to 12" x 17") at hardware resolutions of 800 x 1,600 DPI. It uses moving mirrors to project an image onto a single, stationary CCD element. Umax says this technology minimizes signal noise to produce more consistent consistent scans and reduces power consumption and scan times.

The footprint of the scanner is about 18" by 24". The 12" x 17" scan area can handle 32 35 mm slides when used with the optional transparency adapter, while the auto-detect slide holders allow the scanner to scan and crop the same number of slides automatically. Bundle options include:

  • Scanner, transparency adapter and Photo/Prepress bundle: $2,699. The Photo/Prepress bundle includes PowerColor scanning software for drum scanner software controls and asset management software.
  • Scanner, transparency adapter and Pro Design Mac bundle: $2,399. The Pro Design Mac bundle includes MagicScan scanning software, MagicScan printed manual, binuscan PhotoPerfect CMYK & RGB for automatic color correction and separation, image editing software, asset management software and OCR software.
  • Scanner, transparency adapter and Design Mac bundle: $1,999 (estimated street price), $2,199 (SRP). The Design Mac bundle includes MagicScan scanning software, MagicScan printed manual, binuscan PhotoPerfect RGB for automatic color correction, image editing software and OCR software.
  • Scanner and Duo Design bundle (no transparency adapter): $1,499 (estimated street price), $1,699 (SRP). The Duo Design bundle includes MagicScan scanning software, MagicScan printed manual, binuscan PhotoPerfect RGB for automatic color correction, image editing software and OCR software.

The company did not say when the 2100XL would be available. However, catalogers say they expect the first shipment Thursday. For more information, visit http://www.umax.com.
