Agfa has unveiled two new scanners in its SnapScan line, the e50 and the e40, which are being bundled with Readiris Pro 4.21 for Mac. Readiris is an OCR package from Image Recognition Integrated Systems (IRIS).
Readiris recognizes 47 languages in the Mac version covering character sets in Western European, Eastern European, Baltic, Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish, Chinese and Korean, among others. It can also recognize documents containing mixed languages and mixed alphabets and manages several fonts of various sizes mixed on the same page. The software is available for PC, Mac and Unix. Readiris Pro supports all major scanners and can also import graphics files (such as TIFF) from other applications.
The new e50 and e40 scanners offer 42-bit color depth and 1,200 x 2,400 dpi resolution. New features include a built-in transparency module and four programmable buttons on the e50. The e40 and e50 scan originals and automatically format them for the Internet, word processing, text conversion (OCR) or image-manipulation programs. They come with a USB interface. Maximum scanning area is 8.5" x 11.7". The SnapScan e50 also features interchangeable colored handles and button covers in translucent orange, blue and graphite.
