Adobe To Buy Canoma from MetaCreations
Adobe products to support Metastream

Adobe Systems Inc. says it will acquire Canoma, a 3D application, from MetaCreations, which had said it was divesting itself of all of its retail products. In addition, Adobe will add support for MetaCreations' Metastream technology in its products, including Photoshop, GoLive, Illustrator, LiveMotion, InDesign, Premiere and After Effects. Adobe says it will continue to make investments in the 3D market space and continue to develop 3D in its existing Web products over the course of the year.

Canoma is designed to create 3D models from flat images and output them for the Web in either Metastream or VRML formats. It can also export PICT, .PNG, Photoshop and TIFF files in 2D or AutoCAD, Metastream, Poser Prop, Truespace, VRML2 and Wavefront in 3D. It also supports QuickTime and sequential PICT output for animations.

Metastream is a technology designed for e-commerce applications on the Web as a means of delivering 3D content quickly through the progressive display of images.
