Big, Fat Picture for Capitalist Pigs

By David Nagel
Senior Producer

This picture is sort of a composite between two Chinese propaganda posters, both of which are amusing in themselves, which is why I've included them below. I took a picture of me and colored over it using the soldier poster as a reference. I was unsuccessful at recreating the background from the soldier picture or modifying it with something Mac-related, and I liked the background from the Chairman Mao poster, so I used it for inspiration.

  • Camera used to take picture of me: Agfa ePhoto 780c.
  • Image manipulation software: Adobe Photoshop 5.5.
  • Filters: No fancy filters were used in the making of this picture—just Water Paper (twice) on the background and a faded Water Paper (35 percent) on the foreground. There was a little bit of sharpening as well, which helped create more of a wash/brush feel for the foreground, most of which was created with the airbrush tool.

Do you have something to say? Write something back to me, and your letter just might make it into our very special section entitled "Talkin' Smack." Or, if you'd prefer, you can post a message in the Creative Mac World Wide User Group. Or, yet still, you can just go back to the Talkin' Smack page and read the other good stuff that's there.
