Genuine
Fractals Print Pro
[continued]
Blowing
it up
On more geometric images, the differences between native interpolation and fractal
resizing are more obvious. We'll blow up a 72 DPI JPEG image of a skyscraper to
800 percent its original size.

The result
from Genuine Fractals is a much sharper image that manages to maintain detail
while smoothing out pixel edges. Because of the limitations of the Web, I can't
really show you the true output of Print Pro, but, even in JPEG form, the differences
stand out.
Performance
and overall value
Genuine Fractals takes a lot of RAM. A lot! But the operations are fairly quick.
The first example we used took about three seconds running on a G4 400 MHz Mac.
The second took about 25 seconds. Photoshop's native interpolation took about
half the time on the first one and about one-tenth the time on the second. But
the difference in the quality of the final output makes up for the speed. Still,
don't expect to take a small graphic and blow it up to an 8" x 10" image.
It's just not going to look right. But for times when you need some additional
resolution on an image, Genuine Fractals Print Pro is an excellent tool.
