Adding the custom mask to your template
So why did we bother saving out a custom template? It's much, much easier and safer than the alternative, which is to modify one of DVD Studio Pro's built-in templates. Essentially we've taken one of Apple's templates, modified it to our liking and saved it to a nice, safe location, where we can go in and modify it to our heart's content without affecting the integrity of the application. Hopefully, anyway. While I haven't encountered any problems with this technique, remember that it's always a good idea to make a backup of your software when doing things that aren't covered in the manual.[an error occurred while processing this directive] So now it's time for the delicate part of the operation. Locate your custom template on your hard drive. It should be in /Library/Application Support/DVD Studio Pro/Templates.

Remember, you must quit DVD Studio Pro before going any farther!

Now that you've located the temple, right-click on it (or Control-click), and choose "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu that pops up.

This will open up a new window containing the contents of your template. Navigate to /Contents/Resources, and you'll see three folders, each containing a ".pox" extension. These are the folders containing the motion masks in your template.

Each one of these contains yet further contents. Select the one called "RectCenterDesaturate.pox" (the central motion button from the template), and navigate to /Contents/Material. Here you'll see a QuickTime movie called something like "A57A3FB0-B0EE-11D7-BAEF-000393AE67F4.mov." (The name of the movie in your specific folder may differ slightly from mine.)

Finally, this file is the actual QuickTime motion mask used in your menu. Copy its name, and then apply the name to the mask that you created previously. Move your new mask into this location, replacing the old mask.
