FEBRUARY 26, 2004 Color Shift in DVD Studio Pro 2
You're all set. Relaunch DVD Studio Pro, and your color problems should be solved, even if you're working on a project that previously had displayed color problems. The example below shows the exact same project as the first example--same still and motion assets--but built with the Generic RGB profile active rather than my chosen display profile. [an error occurred while processing this directive]Click the Play button to watch. Now, it is possible that you're still experiencing color problems in your project. A couple things could be happening. First, you didn't quit DVD Studio Pro when you switched your display profile. DVD Studio Pro must not be running when you change your display profile; if it is, it won't recognize the change, and you'll be stuck with the same problem until you relaunch the program. The same is true of any subsequent launches: You must switch to the Generic RGB profile every time you launch DVD Studio Pro. The second potential problem is a consistency issue with ColorSync. While I was tooling around with this problem in order to find a solution, what I discovered was that messing around with ColorSync settings will sometimes have an impact on a DVD project's color, even if the display profile is set to Generic RGB. The solution, again, is a simple one. 1. Open up your ColorSync Utility program, which is located at Applications/Utilities/ColorSync Utility.  2. Click on the Preferences button and make sure the RGB default is set to Generic RGB.  You might assume, now, that matching up your display profile in System Preferences and ColorSync Utility will allow you to bypass the Generic RGB requirement. Sadly, this isn't the case. Although I did have some success with this technique, the results were too inconsistent to justify calling this approach a viable solution. Plus, it introduces problems for users on other systems who might be sharing your project. So the only option for now is the Generic RGB profile.
