JANUARY 30, 2004 Deformations in Cinema 4D We're cutting it a bit close this year, with Valentine's Day just two weeks away, but hopefully this Cinema 4D tutorial arrives in time for you to create all the 3D hearts you'll need to get you through the holiday workload. If you're new to Maxon's Cinema 4D, you might be fumbling around trying to clump together some spheres and pyramids to create a heart shape. But this time around we'll take a look at deformers to find a simple way to model and animate your geometry without converting the selections to editable polygons.
Maxon's Cinema 4D comes with several deformation tools that show up as objects in your project. Each tool has several parameters that allow you to deform the geometry of objects in your project. Each deformer's parameters vary, depending on the function of the deformer. You can access these deformation objects from the standard tools tab, or from the "Objects" pulldown menu. Their names describe their effect when applied to geometry. The list of deformers includes Bend, Bone, Bulge, Explosion, Explosion FX, FFD, Formula, Melt, Polygon Reduction, Shatter, Shear, Spherify, Spline Deformer, Spline Rail, Taper, Twist, Wind, and Wrap. While Spherify, Spline Deformer and Spline Rail are new additions to version 8, the other deformers have been around for several releases.
