JANUARY 19, 2004 After Effects Spline Tricks, Part 2
![]() Here's one simple example, using the position data extrapolated from the mask shape for light source location in a plug-in:[an error occurred while processing this directive]Of course, you can copy/paste the data into any layer's position track, but you can also paste it directly into position tracks for effects that carry point control. Armed with these keyboard shortcuts to the masking tools, you can create any variety of spline mask shapes. However, as outlined in the Auto-trace tutorial, it's fairly simple to create masks in AE6. Quick comp setup 1. In a new project, create a new comp, 4 seconds in length. 2. Import a static image with an alpha channel (I'm using an RGBA logo) and place it in the comp. 3. In the same comp, create a solid color below the RGBA layer. ![]() Creating the Masks Using Auto-trace, I'll make a mask for the alpha channel of the delivered RGBA logo. 1. Select the layer with an RGBA image on it (mine is logo.psd). ![]() 2. Select LAYER->Auto-trace. Because my RGB image is a still, I only need to select the "Current Frame" option. Tolerance is set to 3 because I only need a loose path. Threshold is 50%. Channel is set to "Alpha." ![]() This sets up the alpha channel. One keyframe is set at the current time, called Mask 1 back on the layer. ![]() ![]() Prev 1 2 3 Next Related sites: AV Video Creative Mac Digital Post Production Digital Producer Film and Video Magazine The WWUG Related forums: [an error occurred while processing this directive]
