Creating the crystal stalk.
Create a Branch object. The first step of the XFrog frost starts with the basis of all growth, the Branching Object.[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Like a lofting object, the branch includes a profile and a path. The default size is huge. You'll need to change your camera or path size to get it all on screen.

Crystal Thorns
Duplicate the Branch object and place it in the hierarchy just below the path spline.

Back to the Parent
The branches, now looking like thorns, are generated by the Node parameters set in the parent branch object. Each branch object dictates how the resulting branches will be generated. To edit how our new thorny growths look, we have to select the parent, then edit the node parameters.

The first parameter to change is Node Distribution. The default creates branches at the top, simulating a tree. To make the dispersion uniform, the values along the curve must be equal. If you prefer entering numbers rather than sliding points, right click (cmd-click) the name of the Node parameter and select Show Subchannels.

Node Screw defines the rotation of the resulting branch buds as they grow around the stalk. To take advantage of the 3D environment, create a small variation. Start Y=10¼, End Y=0.
